Trade Review
A structured analysis of past trades to identify patterns, mistakes, and strengths — typically done daily, weekly, or monthly to drive continuous improvement.
What is a Trade Review?
A trade review is the process of analyzing your past trades to extract actionable insights. It's not just looking at P&L — it's examining your decision-making process, emotional patterns, and execution quality to identify what's working and what needs to change.
Review Cadences
- Daily (5 min): Quick scan of today's trades. Did you follow your plan? Any emotional trades? One lesson for tomorrow
- Weekly (30 min): Review the full week's trades. Win rate, biggest winners/losers, setup compliance rate, emotional patterns. Set one focus for next week
- Monthly (1 hour): Deep analysis. Performance by setup, session, pair, emotion. Equity curve assessment. Update your trading plan based on findings
Effective Review Questions
The quality of your review depends on the questions you ask. Instead of "Did I make money?" ask: "Which setups performed best? Am I overtrading after losses? What time of day are my worst trades? What emotional state preceded my biggest drawdowns?" These questions lead to specific, actionable improvements rather than vague resolutions.
